_{Four years ago I decided to photograph the cultural facilities in Guangxi that were built in the last century and are still open for public use as an archive and an emotional tour for myself. Although I didn't end up going on to finish it, I went to two old libraries in Liuzhou and Guilin. The two libraries are similar in architectural structure, and both have the same atrium surrounded by plants, which is quiet and somber, and it is a good place for meditation if you just walk around the library without reading books.} 

^{Liuzhou Library is located at No. 77, the third middle school road in Liubei District, formerly known as the Liuzhou River Library built in 1928, and then the new library was built at the present site in November 1992.}

^{同年秋季我去到了漓江旁的桂林图书馆安新分馆。始建于1908年，1944年桂林沦陷时馆舍与二十多万藏书被毁，部分藏书被转移到昭平县得以留存。如今馆舍是1991年建成开放的，由郭沫若题字。在这印象最深的是大面积的水磨石墙面和放置许多档案材料的成排木柜，抽屉把手叠起来像数双眼睛。馆内的光线虽然相较柳图昏黄许多，但气氛却更冷峻和肃穆些，人们大多去了新建成的总馆阅览，旧馆更多为办公所用。附近的居民告诉我在周末馆前的场地会自发形成一片跳蚤市场，人们也会带来自己的画和书法作品摆摊。图书馆是这附近社区旧成的生活核心，浑然一体。}

^{In the fall of the same year, I went to the Guilin Library's Anxin Branch by the Lijiang River. It was built in 1908, and when Guilin fell in 1944, the building and its collection of more than 200,000 books were destroyed, but part of the collection had been transferred to Zhaoping County to be preserved. The building today was built and opened in 1991, with an inscription by Guo Moruo. What is most impressive here are the large terrazzo walls and the rows of wooden cabinets that store many files, with drawer handles stacked like several pairs of eyes.  Although the light inside the library is much dimmer than that in the Liuzhou Library, the atmosphere is colder and more solemn. Most people go to the newly built main library for reading, while the old library is more for office use.  The neighborhood tells me that on weekends a flea market will spontaneously form on the grounds in front of the library, and people will bring their paintings and calligraphy for sale. The library is the natural core of life in this neighborhood, all in one.}
